A Complete New Year’s Ritual to Cleanse Your Home and Energy 🌿✨
The New Year brings the perfect opportunity for a fresh start—physically, energetically, and spiritually. This comprehensive ritual helps you cleanse your home and yourself from the inside out, using the power of essential oils, smudge sticks, or Palo Santo.
Follow these steps to clear out the old, invite in the new, and create a harmonious space to begin the year on a positive note.
Step 1: Open the Doors and Windows
Begin by opening all doors and windows to allow stagnant energy to flow out and fresh energy to come in. As you do this, set your intention:
“I release all negativity from my home and welcome peace, positivity, and renewal.”
Step 2: Physically Clean Your Home
Start by decluttering and cleaning surfaces, as physical mess can hold onto stagnant energy. Mop, dust, and organize your space to create a blank slate for the energy cleansing.
Step 3: Energetic Cleaning with Essential Oils
3a. Floor Cleansing Mop Solution
Mix these ingredients in a bucket of warm water:
-
5 drops Tea Tree essential oil
-
5 drops Lemon essential oil
-
Optional: A splash of white vinegar for added cleansing power.
Mop the floors, focusing on high-traffic areas, while visualizing negativity being swept away with every stroke.
3b. Diffuser Blend for the Air
Add the following to your diffuser:
-
4 drops Sweet Orange essential oil
-
3 drops Rosemary essential oil
-
3 drops Lavender essential oil
Let this blend fill your home with uplifting and calming energy as you clean.
3c. Window and door Cleansing Spray
Mix in a spray bottle:
-
5 drops Tea Tree essential oil
-
5 drops Lemon essential oil
-
5 drops Peppermint
-
5 drops Eucalyptus
-
5 drops white sage
-
2 cups distilled water
-
1 tbsp white vinegar.
Spray windows, doors (including frames) and mirrors, wiping them clean to reflect fresh, vibrant energy into your home.
3d. Door Cleansing Anointing
Prepare a small bowl with the following:
-
4 drops Cedarwood essential oil
-
3 drops Frankincense essential oil
-
A carrier oil like jojoba or olive oil.
Dip your fingers into the blend and anoint door frames and thresholds, sealing your home with protection and positivity.
Step 4: Energy Cleansing with Smudge Sticks or Palo Santo
4a. White Sage Smudging
-
Light the white sage smudge stick and allow it to burn for about 20 seconds before blowing out the flame.
-
Begin in the centre of your home and move clockwise through each room.
-
Waft the smoke into corners, along windows, and across doorways. As you smudge, recite:
“I cleanse this space of all negativity and invite peace and light into my home.”
4b. Palo Santo (Alternative)
If you don’t have white sage, use a Palo Santo stick:
-
Light the stick and let it smoulder, producing smoke.
-
Walk through your home in the same clockwise pattern, letting the aromatic smoke purify each space.
Step 5: Self-Cleansing Ritual
-
Take the smudge stick or Palo Santo and guide the smoke around your body, starting at your feet and moving upward to your head.
-
As you do this, affirm:
“I release all that no longer serves me and welcome clarity, love, and strength.”
Step 6: Move Outside Your Home
Finish the ritual by stepping outside and smudging around the perimeter of your home. Walk clockwise, wafting smoke toward the walls and saying:
“I surround my home with protection and invite only positive energy to enter.”
